Spring 2017 Trends:

Rock the Runway

As the curtains close on New York Fashion Week, we’re left feeling inspired and ready to create some runway-inspired pieces! If bold colors, oversize crystals and meticulously-shaped metals are your cup of tea, then you’re going to love this year’s spring trends and the Bead Fest Santa Fe workshops that coordinate.

Today, we’re going to show you how to achieve that fresh-off-the-runway look without draining your life savings. Each workshop we list will leave you with trend-driven wearable art and a set of priceless creative skills that will enable you to have fun making new pieces season after season!

Designer: Moschino | Workshop: Cosmic Bling Bangle — Debra Saucier

First up on the Bead Fest runway, we have a bling-tastic cuff sprinkled with sparkling Swarovski crystals. The soft, feminine hues of this cute creation look stunning with this season’s neutrals and vivid tones. No matter what you pair it with, this cuff is a big personality wrapped up in a darling little package.

Designer: Naeem Khan | Workshop: Discover Torch Enameling – Designs that kick GLASS — Steven James

In 2017, we vow to stop admiring the rainbow and start wearing it instead! Fashion forecasters said the ‘80s would be making a strong comeback this year, and the puffed shoulders, neon hues, fishnets and corset belts spotted on the runways validate this prediction. Chunky jewels in bright retro shades get a contemporary update with sleek lines and shapes.

Designer: Proenza Schouler | Workshop: Silver H2 Oh! – Water Casting – Kieu Pham Gray

Out with the dainty drops and in with shoulder and navel grazing statement pieces. Strong lines and rustic finishes give these elongated looks an edgy, too-cool-for-school vibe that we’re dying to try out. We’ve encountered this trend in the form of hammered metal earrings, tassel necklaces and lengthy strands of raw gemstones. Best of all, this trend looks fierce with a cocktail dress or a distressed pair of jeans.

Designer: J. W Anderson | Workshop: Hand Forged Sailors Knot Link Bracelet — Anne Mitchell

The 2017 runways are proving that metal jewelry can take on any shape or form you can imagine! From sharp spikes, to carefully intertwined lace concoctions, we applaud the designers who are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with metal pieces. While this is considered a trend, we believe that a gorgeous metal piece is always a style must!

Designer: Altuzarra | Workshop: Fused Copper and Argentium Silver Earrings — Debora Mauser

Freshen up your spring jewelry wardrobe with shifting shades of rich copper combined with icy silver! The copper pieces we spotted on the runway shined with their unique shapes and color variations. Go ahead, mix your metals and fuse them together in our top copper workshop pick. We adore the contrasting warm and cool tones that come from combining silver and copper, and you’ll love the versatility!

Now that you’re up to speed on the runway’s must-have jewelry trends, which piece is your favorite?

We’re really into the high volume of metal pieces we spotted at NYFW. If you’re feeling these fashionable metal vibes too, you’re in luck! Bead Fest Santa Fe offers dozens of metal-rich learning experiences for you to enjoy!

  1. I will be going to Bead Fest Santa Fe. I want to go to the Georgia O’Keefe art gallery. Are there any coupons that we may use for this venue?
Also on QVC there are lovely southwestern jewelry pieces from, American West Jewelry. They are located in Albuquerque. Is there a tour available to visit their design studio?
This is my second Bead Fest Event and I am excited to experience Santa Fe.
    Thank you,

    1. Hi Sue! We’re super excited to hear that this is your second time joining us at Bead Fest! Unfortunately, we are not associated with the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, nor the American West Jewelry Studio. Our advice would be to contact these establishments either by phone or online. See you at Bead Fest Santa Fe!!
